So far this week we have had radio coverage from Star Radio (Monday 6th October) and Making Mental Notes (Tuesday 7th October), Cambridge's mental health community radio programme. The Making Mental Notes interview can be listened to by visiting: http://www.makingmentalnotes.209radio.co.uk/

Yesterday The Big 1 in 4 Bus visited Huntingdon Town Centre, stopping outside Sainsbury's. The bus was filled to the brim with information material from seventy local support services. Outside we set up our exhibition and two film crews interviewed passers by in the wonderful bright sunshine. We had a fantastic response from members of the public who were keen to tell their stories and answer questions in front of the camera. Our representatives also took their time to talk to and hand out awareness raising material to other passers by. Almost everyone we spoke to had a story to tell about personal experince of mental health and wanted to benefit from our information material. We were therefore able to wrap up the day content in the knowing that our efforts had been worthwhile!

I would like to give a big thank you to everyone involved in this work. Thank You!

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day and The Big 1 in 4 Bus will be stopping outside Boots in Cambridge City Centre between 10am and 2.30pm. Once again, our film crew will be interviewing passers by, including Cambridge MP, David Howarth, who will be making an appearance around 10am. A representative from Comic Relief will also be visiting the bus to talk to people about their personal experinces as part of preparation for Red Nose Day 2009.

Dear all

We've had a great start to the campaign:
We've achieved the following media coverage:: Radio - Q103 and Radio Cambridgeshire: TV - BBC and Anglia: CEN have agreed to do some features during October too.

On 1 October volunteers gave out 2900 fliers and postcards!!! in Cambridge City Centre. Big THANKS to the volunteers who came out to support the launch. We certainly wouldn't have had the impact we had without them and everyone done fantastically well to give out so many leaflets. If you have any feedback and anecdotes then please do drop me a line.

Volunteers were keen to find out about other opportunities this month. Here's the latest (other opportunities, with more notice, will follow): The City Council has given the ad van permission to sit in Cambridge City Centre (outside Boots on Tuesday 7 October). I'm looking for some volunteers who might be able to join us between 11 am and 2pm to give out postcards.

The Big 1 in 4 Bus Campaign launches today!

Dear all,

I am very pleased to announce that The Big 1 in 4 Bus Campaign has been launched today! It will be promoting 70 support services in the Cambridge and Huntingdon area that provide access to training, work, financial and legal help, counselling, a listening ear, support, advocacy, advice and guidance. It will also be raising understanding and awareness through general information and an exhibition. Please see campaign material attached.
The campaign will be reaching the general public in three ways:

1. Via the website www.1in4.org.uk, which also promotes all other World Mental Health Day campaigns and events in the Cambridgeshire area, including the 'Time to Change' and '1 in 4 in the City' Campaign that is being run by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.

2. Via a double-decker bus that will be stopping outside Sainsbury's in Huntingdon Town Centre on Wednesday 8th October (10.30am to 2.00pm) and outside Boots in Cambridge City Centre on Friday 10th October (10.00am to 2.30pm). The bus will be carrying information material from the 70 support services as well as lots of other awareness raising information, including an exhibition that promotes the new ONEinFOUR magazine (www.oneinfourmag.org). We will also be carrying out film work involving interviewing members of the public about their perceptions and attitudes towards mental health!

3. Via distribution of the campaign material to support services, GP surgeries, libraries, community centres, universities and colleges in the Cambridge and Huntingdon area. NOTE: If you would like paper copies of the campaign material please do get in touch.

Announcing the launch of '1 in 4 in the City' anti-stigma campaign

CPFT is piloting 'Time to Change', a very exciting anti stigma campaign aimed to get people talking about mental illness.

Cambridge will be the pilot of the biggest anti stigma campaign ever held in support of the 1 in 4 people in the UK who experience mental health problems at some point during their lives.

There will be a press launch at 11am on Wednesday, 1 October on Parker's Piece.

It is the start of a month of activity to create a positive shift in attitudes towards mental health problems by 2012.

Over the month you will see:

- large adverts on bus shelter sides
- an 'advan' driving around the city
- coasters, postcards and leaflets featuring the myths and facts about mental health in cafes, pubs and hairdressers
- posters in all the City Centre poster boards
- street art
- advertisements and articles in the Cambridge Evening News
- stories on Radio Cambridgeshire and Q103
- 5 a side football tournament at Cambridge City on 19 October
- talking points – people sitting on sofas around the town
- people telling their personal stories
- Facebook page called 'I'm positive about mental health'
